Book / Portfolio

Hello =)

Everything is going here as planned, better even. I don’t have a job but i’m confident i’ll get one. Being a foreigner in a big city means that a lot of people want to take advantage of your situation – you’re running low on cash, you need a job – but i’ve decided that i’d prefer to take some more time, living on little money if needed for a bit longer, than get a job in which i’m abused, which pays almost nothing for what you put in it.

Last couple of day’s i’ve survived on 0 pound, yeah, that’s right ZERO, but happily for me I don’t need a lot to survive =) Tomorrow finally I will have a bit more room to move I hope =)

After a lot of hours full of working, editing and choosing just a few out of thousand’s of photograph’s, I was able to make a pick and build my portfolio. The site is now open, have a look around if you can, because Becky-Photography.com has opened its doors to the world. =)

I’m quite a bit proud of my little work and I hope others like it too =) I’m trying to get my name out there, yes, I’m still young and I have a lot of time ahead of me, but it isn’t easy to get into the fashion business,  let alone become a fashion photographer, but i’m doing my best. I try to take the most out of every chance I get and doing my best at what i’m good at, I honesty don’t want to look back at my life, say, in 10 years and regret the chances i had but didn’t take, it’s a huge opportunity  to move to London on my own and having 6 months to find a job, that’s why i’m making long hours and work hard, because i’m not someone who’ll quit just because she’s a bit scared of the cold water though I must admit that I did and still do get cold feet sometime’s and than the only thing I want to do is hop on a plane and get as fast as possible back to my momy, dady, sister and friends.

xoxo

Hey guys!

So this past week has ben incredible, I went out, met a few people, we’ve got a new bath (with a shower!!) and i’ve got everything like bank acounts and transport etcetera sorted out. So yeah, I’m kind of happy, and i’m finally relaxing a bit. =)

Yesterday I went to Oxford Street, bought some amazing high heels at miss selfridge, as a new scarf, i also bought a t-shirt with on one side feathers on the shoulder, and a lovely bolero coat, which is just really simple but I adore all the things i bought yesterday and i’m very happy with everything :) I now also found out that I can buy coats/jackets that are my size in sleeve’s in river island, and some in H&M :) And i also found out that I now also fit in my leather like skinny pants (oooh, me love’s them and they’re size 8!) I’m going to post some images soon :)

I’ve bought a new domain and i’m preparing everything to go online. Its Becky Photography, easy to remember, and now I can finally put up my Portfolio in a decent space, but don’t worry, kiekeboo’s staying, so I can put my random rants on here =P

Pass by there one of these days to view my portfolio =)

Today I went to Oxoford street to meet Moe, a very nice (egyptian) guy, it was really a nice day and i’m glad I met him and didn’t cancel the “date kinda thing” at the last moment. I must say that it was not nice from the buses to stop on Lambeth north and not go into town with me because now I had to spend P5.60 on the underground .. Oh well, in the end everything went ok =) We walked, went to a coffee place, drank something, talked and talked and talked, went to the Natural History Museum and i made dinner at my place, because well, i’m low on cash, and I owed him to cook dinner xD

I really enjoyed the day, and it is something I hope to repeat soon, thanx Moe!

Hope to update again soon =)

I live in London!

london2

I’m really happy! These past months have been amazing for me, i’ve finished my fashion photography course, which was amazing by the way, i’ve learned so much! I’ve ended school and saw all the people I wanted to see before i went to London and i’ve got a huge opportunity, i’ve moved out of house directly into London! I’ve now got my own house and in a few weeks i’ll probably have work somewhere in pet grooming, or at least i went to a interview yesterday and they said they want me, i won’t tell anything more about it because it will only ruin things, so, i’m 19 years old, i’ve moved from holland to Portugal when I was 12 years old, and now that i’m 19, i’ve moved on my own to London, and I may already have secured my first oficial job, and both just in one week time!

I’m living in a smal 3 floor flat in Lambeth, London, between the Oval underground station and Brixton, a nice place to live with a lot of buses passing into Brixton or Central London, which will take up to 45 minutes to get to. I’ve got a very nice flatmate, who’s kind of gay but he’s amazing, i can get a long with him quite well. My works going to be quite far away, but i’ll make it on time, i’m sure of that.

My dad’s still here, he should have hopped onto a plane from gatwick to Lisbon early this morning but they canceled the flight because of the volcano ashes coming from Iceland. If a plane gets in there the motors will stop, this happened some time ago to a Jumbo jet; all the motors stopped working and it well 4KM out of the sky before it was able to start up again and make an emergency landing. At this moment the ashes are at 5KM hight and because of the sea wind, it’s spreading in a strange way, some parts of Europe don’t have any problems at all, other parts have their airspace locked tight, now only emergency helicopters can fly in some places and some planes can fly up to 4KM hight, which is flying extremely expensive because it takes up a load of fuel.

Things are going great out here though, my dad’s staying some more days, and as people think it will take up to months before they can reschedule their flight, he’s thinking about taking a boat to Santander, Spain. Until than, i’ll be going on some more adventures in this concrete jungle named London, a place I love with all my heart, this is the best thing (togehter with taking the pet grooming course and fashion photography course, both in Lisbon) i’ve ever done, and i’m really happy i didn’t put it down.

London

london.jpg

So I decided about a year ago, when i first came to London, that I would one day move to London, and last December when I broke up with my then BF I said to myself that I would move on, I had the chance and I would take it, so that’s exactly what I did! Today, 4 months later i’m sitting in my hotel room in the Chelsea Guesthouse knowing that tomorrow i’m going to move to my new place, a small room in a tiny house for 3 persons near Oval. It’s not very far from the centre and It’s ideal, it just feels like home. Today I visited a pet groomer and i’m hoping I get a job in that branch, it’s something i’m trained in and I love it. I would like to do fashion photography, but life’s going as planned; first pet grooming and photography on the side, and than i’m going to pursue MAYBE fashion photography full time, but that will still take a long time, and only when i’m ready.

It’s really scary here on my own, i’m only 19 years old but i’ve already moved from Holland to Portugal (when I was 12) and now i’ve moved to London on my own! I don’t know anyone here, but i’m sure I will make it, if I want something, i’ll do it, don’t matter what, I mean, you only live once, you’ve got to do the things you want, else what’s life for? I’m going to look back in say, 40 years from now, being proud of myself for having taken this step, which is huge by the way!

My dad is still here, but he’s going back to Portugal on sunday and from than on it will be me on my own in London town, a world city!!

xoxo

P.s. I’m gonna post my adventures on this blog so come back now and then ;)
P.S.S. I’m going to open a new site for my photographic portfolio as fast as I can =3

MacBook

I’m finally the owner of a MacBook!! Ok, so it used to be my mom’s but still, it’s mine now, so I don’t have to worry anymore wether I buy a new one in London or here in Lisbon, which would be kind of expensive. I can just put everything up here, and the money that wasn’t spend on the laptop can be used for something else, like .. Maybe a new lense :P

Well i’m in Lisbon again, sitting in my hotel room, it’s the same as the one I went when I did the pet grooming course, I just love this place, it’s like my second home and people are really nice, they make me feel at ease, i’m not scared anybody will rob my stuff, which sometimes happens in Lisbon, if you don’t watch out.

I Really Love Lisbon, it’s very special, i’ve been living in Portugal for 7 years now and the place that feels most like my second home is Lisbon, it’s where I like to be the most, Lisbon and ofcourse Caldas da Rainha, but Caldas is different because most of my friends are from Caldas.

I’m really gonna miss my friends and family and Portugal of course, it’s my home and in London I don’t know anyone, but it does speak to me. Phew, i’m moving out of home and directly into another country, across the sea, it’s really exciting though!

Tomorrow i’m gonna do the first final work for the fashion photography course, I really enjoyed doing the preparations, though MArio will probably not think so xD It was really fun, i think i have really found what I want to do the rest of my life.

I don’t understand people that don’t do what they dream of, ok it is hard to get somewhere, but it is fun to do hard things, to fight and to win certain rounds, i mean, even if i wanted to become a famous movie star i wouldn’t wuit and have a 9 to 5 simple job behind a desk, i know there are people needed for theses kind of services, but please people, ty to live your life, do it like you want it because you only live once, and you can’t turn back when you’re 80 something. Enjoy the moment & live your life

xoxo

P.S. I’m gonna open a new domain to put my portfolio, see if it will help me a bit =)

Foz do Arelho shoot – Patricia Santos 13.03.10

Patricia 2

Saturday i went to Foz do Arelho to meet a friend of mine, Patricia, she’s got stunning looks and well, i really wanted to do a shoot with her for ages, and the day before she said there was no problem =) So from 11 until 5 we stayed at the beach, took 996 pictures and had a lot of fun, she just couldn’t stop giggeling and laughing but it went really, really well. It was quite cold so she went running to her coat every minute, but we had a lot of luck because for the first time in months it was a complete blue sky with sunshine and everything =) I’m certainly gonna take some more photographs of her before I move to London next month ( oooh yeah, just 1 month less 3 days left before moving out !! )

Inspirations =)

Ok so for y last course work, which is the final project and will really make or brake my portfolio, i have to do a free project, my idea is o really use all the chances that a i have at the moment and so maybe if Mario let’s me, i can do a in and outdoors. Indoors will be really to an hard edge side shoot, like a mix between chique rock and fashion sense. If i do the outside shoot i would like to combine evening dresses, and some stunning accesories, like a big top hat or a huge ribbon to put in the hair, somewhat like the Lous Vuitton ribons used in their last season but than a bit rounder .. I’ve got the opportunity and i’m definetly going to take it, why shouldn’t I?

This last week has been a real stress week, i looked for a lot of inspiration because of my final poject, i had my driving license exam, which didn’t go well, and i didn’t pass, which oh well, i won’t even give a comment on it cause i really know i can make it next time, and then my laptop crashed.. My dad was able to take out the information of one of my discs, but for 3 days i was really horrified my photo’s that i made during my fashion course were gone, hapily for me we could restore them. In a few hours my course starts and i hope i have everything ready.. I only have untill the 21st of march to apply for college so that’s when i have to have the soot ready, let’s see, i only have a week left more or less .. Let’s pray i get it ..

Here’s by the way a bit of my inspirations =)

Olivia Lopez
Lookbook =)
Rachel Marie I
Dana

Check them out ;)

Oh yeah i’m working at this moment with a MacBook which is like, REALY awkward, because it is so diferent from a Windows computer, happy for me that i can cme a round a bit with this thing and in the next month, i’ll learn even more about ’cause now my Toshiba has broken down, my mom let’s me work on this one the next month untill i move out to London =) I’m really excited about moving there, I don’t know anyone over there, can get myself around the city centre a bit, but it will be a huge change from Portugal and i am frankly going to miss this non organised bunch of .. whatever =) It’s my home, since I moved here 7 years ago =)

Well, see ya, bye =D

New Look!!

Ok so today was a very bussy day for me, and yesterday night even worse. I stayed up untill around 5 o clock in the morning so i could finish this site, but i just couldn’t quite make it. Today i got it almost right, but than at the last moment it just freaked, so on a certain moment i started to use my Frugal theme, which is completely customizable, and it did it!! Frugal, i ♥ you!

The photo’s from the header were made by me, the model is Filipa Oliveira and the pictures were taken with my Nikon D40 =) That day we all pityed Filipa because well it was only about 0 degrees celcius, and she was only in these cloths, so ot was really cold.

I also put some photo’s finaly up on my deviant acount, click the link in the footer to get there =D

Nana was verry dirty today, she roled around in the mud and she just couldn’t clean herself without hurting, so i simply picked her up and put her in the bath, she normally bites but this time she didn’t. I think that the most important thing to do when you wash a dog is that you show confidence, you’re the boss, and you are not scared of them, you’re the alfa and she has to listen to you, if you show that, than they’ll not bite. I really learned a lot from the pet grooming course i did and i would really like to continue with it in London, maybe i could do it as a side job or full time, at least untill september.

There is still a lot to do this week, next week i’ll be having my driving exame, i really hope i make it, and i still have to set up my photography portfolio, i’ll be working on that this and next week, i really hope i can enter THE London Fashion College and study fashion photography, it really is my dream, i think i may finaly have found my calling .. A friend of ours said that in his opinion we should have a break between 9th grade and 10th grade like at least 2 years, so you have the time to find out what you really want to do in life, i’m really happy i searched around a lot to finaly know what i want, because i would not like to do a job for 50 years which i don’t like at all, and it’s probably the last chance i have to study something..

Well, hope you enjoyed it.

Car crash

Ok so saturday while we were on our way to Lisbon so I could do the IELTS even though it was quite calm, it had rained a bit but the road was fine, our car decided
to get a flat tire, it was like an explosion, one minute everything was fine the next we were spining around hitting the highway protection fences. We had an ambulance behind us who stopped the other cars from behind and my dad was able to turn the car around. 5 minutes later a fireteuck and another ambulance came by with sitenes and lights and everything and they stopped and asked if we were hurt. The ambulance that was right behind us had called them to help us out and they did. The highway patroll came to help us out and just 5 minutes after he arived a fiat punto had the exact accident as we at the same point but they didn’t pop their tire And just got a little scratchon the hood but nothing more and like a few minutes later they continued their journey. The car was taken to bombarral and we took a cab to Lisbon where we stayed at colombo, untill we went home with the bus. When we came home there was no light so my parents decided to go eat out at the restaurant where i used to work, together with my sister and i went with Carlos out for the MC. Food was good, and it was a lot of fun the whole night long. First MC, than a typical portuguese party and after that we went to Greenhill, my favourite club. There happened a lot of things over there but fortunatly all bad things were turned upside again.

Just wanted to thank Carlos, it’s hard to admit having a problem but he did that and got help, proving everybody wrong, and yes we had outr problems in the past but he’s the one that has always been on my side when i needed someone and he was the only one who understood saturday that i needed a friend,to talk and relax. I’m gonna miss you a lot C ;-)
